Winner of the Prestigious I&B Music Award, not once but twice

Martin Bennis has become one of Irelands most prolific songwriters. His songs have been recorded by such artists as Finbar Furey, P.J. Murrihy & Seamus Shannon, Seamus Moore, Dessie Hynes, Michael Collins, Jim Ed Huston, Sons of Roisin, the late Johnny Loughrey & son Sean and USA stars like Buddy Ray, Brad Callan and many more.

Born in the town of Clonmel in 1951, Martin and his family moved to Limerick at the age of two, where he met and married his childhood sweetheart Mary, and have four children together Tara, Tina, Emma and son Mark. He dedicates his latest album "River of Steel" to them and his ten grandchildren. Growing up Martin always had a great interest in music and was heavily influenced by the music of George Jones, Engelbert Humperdinck, Maisie Daniels, Rose Tynan, Joe Dolan, Hank William and Hank Locklin.



In 1980 Martin began recording and spent many wonderful years in London. there he met up with Bill Delaney and Martin McDonell, directors of I&B Records, who liked his work so much that they signed him to a lucrative publishing deal. Martin also has some works with Banshee Publishers, which is run by Sheila Furey, wife of Finbar.

Having toured in the Northwest of England and having spent four years in Pontins in Southport, Martin decided to call it a day on the touring circuit and concentrate on writing songs. To date he has five albums released with his album "Tears of Dreams" going to number four in the Irish Charts in 1998. Now recignised as Irelands most prolific songwriter, Martin, working from his base in beautiful and historic Limerick continues to turn out great songs in almost every genre.
